Three ways to your first game
“Find an opponent” matches you with someone to play, with the board size and pace you pick. An invite link lets you play with friends, and they don’t need an account. If nobody’s around, five bots are ready, from beginner to strong.
Why Hoshi?
Hoshi runs on phone and computer without a download. After every game against a bot it shows your biggest mistakes in plain words. There are lessons too, and a new puzzle every day. The bots run in your browser.
Never played?
The basic rules fit on one page: place stones, take liberties, surround territory. Read them at your own pace or try them out right away in the first lesson.

Do I need an account?
No. You can start playing right away. An account is optional and useful if you want to play on several devices or have a rating.
Does Hoshi cost anything?
No. There are no ads and no tracking.
Which board size should I start with?
Start with 9×9. A game there often takes just a few minutes, and you quickly see what your moves do.
Will I play against real people?
That’s up to you. Finding an opponent matches you with people when someone is looking for a game. Bots are always labelled as bots.
